About Ari Rasilainen

Ari Rasilainen studied conducting with Professor Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy . Also his teachers were Arvid Jansons (conducting) and Alexander Labko (violin) in Berlin. Before starting his career as a Conductor, he was a violinist with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra between 1980 and 1986.

 

Ari Rasilainen was Principal Conductor of the Finnish Lapperanta Orchestra between 1985 and 1989 and Principal Guest Conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra . From 1994 to 2002 he was Principal Conductor of the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra. He regularly conducts leading Scandinavian orchestras, as well as throughout Europe, including the Belgian Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Hungarian Philharmonia, Bundesjuvend Orchester, Oslo and Bergen Philharmonic, Prague Symphony, Opera North in Leeds, Symphony Orchestras of Radio Frankfurt, Leipzig and Stuttgart, to the Philharmonic of Radio Hannover, the Orchestra of the Gewandhaus of Leipzig and Symphony Orchestra Radio Berlin. For the Finnish National Opera he conducted Lohengrin by Wagner in 1994, The Magic Flute by Mozart in 1998 and 1999, and Tosca by Puccini in 2001. In the 2005 season he made his debut at the Savonlinna Opera Festival .

 

In Spain he has conducted the orchestras of Galicia, Tenerife, Bilbao, Principado de Asturias and Sinfónica de Sevilla.
